“Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others.” ― Brian Tracy

We love our community. We talk all the time about how much we believe in it. We have even built our whole model of community development and transformation on working with other organizations and individuals that share our love and passion to see our neighborhoods thrive. When we look at whether or not to pursue a project or program, we look first at what it will do to build on good things that are already happening and the good people doing them. All of us at mi2 are active in all kinds of different things to strengthen the good we see happening around us. Whether it means sitting on boards of non profits or ministries, serving as volunteers, or even consulting and developing programs for other groups, we work hard to live out the values we hold dear. Sometimes we do that really well, other times not so much… but we try. That’s just who we are as individuals and as a team.

Square Mile Community Development is the result of our desire to build up our neighborhoods and our stubborn belief that we can do that better when we work together. Part of that means supporting those around us who we see doing good things. We can serve, volunteer, advise, and pray for them, but we’ve decided that’s not enough. Sometimes you just have to put your money where your mouth is, so, that’s what we are going to do.

10% of every financial donation that mi2 receives will go directly to programs, projects, and people that we see building up our community.

Why 10%? Many of us come from a faith perspective that believes in giving 1/10th of what we earn. Whether it’s money, resources, or even crops, a portion should always go to help those that are struggling or who rely on the generosity of others to do the good. It’s just a principle we believe in, and one we will live out as an organization, as well.

We won’t be giving to the big guys who have tons of staff and massive budgets (even though we genuinely support and appreciate them) because we want to help the little guys struggling to bring their passion and vision to fruition. Although we have decades of experience doing this kind of work, mi2 is new and we are one of those little guys. We know the struggle and we see other amazing folks working hard to create things that make our home a better place and we want to support them. We may not have much, but we will use what we have. We believe that we are all better when we build each other up and we plan on practicing what we preach.

So from now on we want you to know: When you write a check, we write a check. Simple as that.
